Susan Kirby and family -

I write to express to you and your family the sincere condolences of the Patricia's on the passing of Corporal (Ret'd) Mike Kirby. I cannot say with full confidence that I met your husband, but if Mike joined 3 PPCLI in 1972 I was in that battalion until Christmas that year. And I do recall that remustering to Firefighter was a good move for many infantrymen in that era. Regardless, the Regiment remembers Mike's service, and you and your family can be proud of that service. His name will be read in this year’s list of the lost when we read that list out this November in the Scared Space in Beechwood, the National Military Cemetery, Ottawa. His name will also be listed in the 2020 edition of the Patrician’s Last Post section.

Thank you for obviously supporting Mike throughout your 40 years together. We are glad that he had a vibrant family and, we hope, a good life after the army and airforce.

Should any of your family want to maintain a connection with the Regiment, a gratis three year Memorial Membership in the PPCLI Association is available. Contact Mr Herb Kenny, the Membership Chairman, at, for details.

We hope you and your family can remember Mike fondly as a soldier as well as a firefighter, husband, father, and grandfather. Thank you all.

Brigadier-General Vince Kennedy (Retired)
Colonel of the Regiment
Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry
