Obituary for Wilmer Roy SMALE

Of Crampton, passed away on October 7, 2017 in his 85th year. Beloved father of Bob (Pat) Smale of Crampton and Kathy (Neale) Unrih of Dorchester. He will be dearly missed by his granddaughters Jennifer (Shane) Matheson, Dawn Smale, and Amy (Chris) Hollywood and his great-grandsons Cooper, Reid and Max. Wilmer married the love of his life, Ruth Turpin, on April 26, 1952 and they shared 60 happy years before she passed away in December 2012.
Wilmer was born in Westminster Twsp., County of Middlesex on October 22, 1932 youngest son of James Harold (Harry) Smale (1967) and Vera Delight Mann (1966). He is survived by his brother Stuart Smale, his sister Shirley Paton, brother Gordon passed away in 2015. Wilmer will also be sadly missed by sister-in-law’s Betty Bart of Embro, and Marie Gould of Florida, as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
Born into a farming family, and following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Wilmer too found innovative ways to make farm work more productive and easier. In 1962, Wilmer and Ruth moved to Crampton with their family and began their agricultural manufacturing business W.R. Smale Co, Ltd. Wilmer’s innovated design for a self-propelled forage wagon made harvesting an easier one man job. Thus began a career in manufacturing for the agricultural sector that spanned decades and brought with it recognition and great satisfaction.
An Active, lifelong member of Springfield Baptist Church, throughout the years Wilmer served in various capacities in the church and is fondly remembered as a favourite Sunday School Teacher and Youth Group Leader.
