Obituary for Bill HARKES
HARKES, William George
Passed away on March 3rd, 2023 at Woodstock General Hospital in his 70th year.
Loving husband of Cynthia Bowen-Harkes. Cherished father of Allison Guzman Rico (Javier), Sabrina, Rhiannon, and Ross. Dear grandpa to Jonathan and Ethan Guzman Rico. Brother to Cheryl McCall (George), Robert Harkes (Luanne) and brother-in-law to Howard Worte. Predeceased by sister Eunice Worte and parents William and Pearl (Wilson) Harkes. He will be greatly missed by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Special thanks to Bill’s cousin, Ron Harkes, for his selfless volunteering to take Bill to many recent appointments.
Besides his family, his two loves were farming and trucking. There are many memories shared of shenanigans and stories especially with his two trucking brothers, Gene Groff and predeceased, Gary Proper. Bill was also known for being able to “MacGyver” anything. Whatever needed - designing, building, or modifying, Bill would figure it out.
At Bill’s request, there will be no funeral service or visitation. Cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honour to either the Canadian Cancer Society or the Woodstock Hospital Foundation.
