Obituary for Robert John STEPHENSON

Robert John Stephenson: January 29, 1948 - October 17, 2022.

Rob passed away suddenly and peacefully on Monday, October 17, 2022. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Alma Stephenson, brother Brian, and brother-in-law Sam Cino. Rob is survived by his best friend, Mary Nyland of Goderich; his children, Dan (Maria) of Toronto; Chris of Orillia; and Eileen, of Hamilton. Rob was the adored Papa of Evelyn. He will be truly missed by his sisters Patricia Cino (Sam), Kathy Westbrook (Bill), sister-in-law Carole, Maureen Fuss (Peter), Bette Wright (Ken), and by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Rob spent his working years as a cattle drover and later as a carpenter. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Ingersoll District Curling Club. Rob was a lifelong sports fan. In his youth he played football and basketball at I.D.C.I., as well as both fastball and slow-pitch on various teams in and around Ingersoll. He was a loyal fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Tigers, and Minnesota Vikings. In recent years, the games provided great entertainment, not to mention a few proline wins. The day before his passing, Rob politely asked a sister to call back tomorrow, as the Vikings were about to take on the Dolphins. One of the last things he celebrated was the Vikings victory.

Rob resided in Goderich for the past 15 years where he volunteered as a member of St. Peter's Cemetery Board and Habitat for Humanity Restore. He also had a stint painting the background art for the local theatre production. He enjoyed Lake Huron sunsets and get-togethers with family. Known for his great sense of humour and admirable knack for storytelling, Rob will be deeply missed.

Funeral Mass and Interment will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church and Cemetery, Ingersoll, ON. Please join the family at 12:30 at the Henderson Hall for lunch, refreshments, and memories in honour of Rob. Donations can be made in Rob’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
