Richard Sirp Elema, born September 14, 1930 in Enumatil Netherland passed away peacefully on January 18, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Betty Haagsma (2011). Loving father of Warner (Grace) Elema, Ruth (Garry)Klingenberg, all of Ingersoll, Janet (Wallace) Eygenraam of Port Sydney, Nancy Stephens of London, Sharon (Ralph) DeVries of Schomberg. Special friend of Janny DeVries. Predeceased by his son-in-law Ross Stephens (2012) and son George (2018). Proud Grandpa of 25 grandchildren and 24 great- grandchildren. Dear devoted brother of Joanne (Dave) Janke of Michigan USA. Predeceased by sisters Helen (John) Baker of Strathroy, Jeane (Frank) DeWeerd of Stratford, Marie (Harry) Linker of Stratroy. He will be missed by many friends in London and Brampton, especially dear friend Janny DeVries of Holland Christian Homes in Brampton and is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
A private family burial will be held later. A celebration of life will be held when restrictions allow.
Richard immigrated from the Netherlands to Canada in 1950 and settled in London, Ontario where he met and married his wife Betty. During his life, he was a very hard worker, moving where life took him. His jobs included farming, factory work, building, painting, and cleaning. After retirement be became involved in mission work in Haiti with MISSION of TEARS, and was touched by their work with orphans and children with cleft lip and pallet. In later life he moved to Holland Christian Homes in Brampton, Ontario where he enjoyed the company of many new friends. Richard loved the Lord and will be remembered as a man of strong faith and deep convictions. Throughout his life he was very involved in his church and in the Christian school. He loved to talk and tell stories.
The funeral service will be held on Friday January 28, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Grace Canadian Reformed Church, 10301 Creditview Road in Brampton.
