Obituary for Mary Evelyn SHIPSTON (Elkins)

Shipston, Mary Evelyn (nee Elkins)

Passed away suddenly on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at the University Hospital in London, Ontario. Mary leaves behind her loving husband of 68 years, Donald Shipston. Cherished mother to Anna (John) Cook, Alan (Patti) Shipston and Stephen (predeceased, Feb. 2021). She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Allison (Tom) Exner, Rachel (Casey) Atherton, Jennifer (Christopher) Paradis and Stephanie (Luke) Doan as well as her great grandchildren Jacob Paradis and Hailey Doan.

Mary was a very special woman who touched many people in her life with her loving and caring soul. She was a brave and courageous lady who faced all of life’s challenges head on. Moving to Canada over 60 years ago, knowing no one, she was quick to get settled and start a new adventure. Dedicating her life to her husband and family, she raised three beautiful children, who are blessed to have her as a mother.

A horticulturist at heart, Mary spent many hours lovingly tending to her beautiful garden. She was the one to go to for all kinds of advice, both for the garden and in life. Bird watching was another favorite pastime of Mary’s. She ensures the birds and squirrels are all fed, with fresh water for the birds to bathe in. Among the birds, Mary cared for the cats that would come around, even rescuing a few lucky ones. She is a woman many look up to, and she will be greatly missed.
