Obituary for Margaret Grace  MacDonald (Garland)

went to join Dad on Saturday, April 14, 2018, just 11 days shy of her 92nd birthday. Born in Etobicoke, Ontario on April 25, 1926 she was the youngest of 6 children. After completing her education in Long Branch, she began work at Good Rich Oil in Port Credit. This is where she met Ian, the love of her life and husband of sixty years. Soon after, we three boys arrived and filled her life with joy and a little terror. She was a very hands on mother, who would spend many hours playing with us. With a wonderful sense of humour, she played many a prank on us. A lifelong learner, Mom instilled a love of learning in all of us. She embraced computers and in her 80’s became more competent in their use than most people much younger. As we grew up her time was split between feeding us and spending time at the local arenas cheering us on at many hockey and lacrosse games. Returning to work in the mid 1960’s, she worked for a number of years before she and Dad started into retirement mode. They spent most of the Golden Years at their home on the Severn River and Lake St. George golf course, near Washago. Mom took great joy in spending time with her grand and great grandchildren and loved when they would come and visit. They later moved to Port Rowan. Golf was always in her heart and mind and, in her final years, she consumed her golf on TV as she was no longer able to play a round. Her final years, after Dad died in 2006, were spent in Ingersoll.
She was predeceased by her husband Ian Robert MacDonald, her parents, Margaret Jane Garland (Parker), and Harold Hall Garland, her sister Anna Hazel (James) Davis (Garland) and her brothers Ormond Parker Garland, Melville Harold Garland, George Hall Garland and James Issac (June) Garland. She is survived by her sons Robert Glenn (Janet) MacDonald, Lawrence Ian (Sandra) MacDonald, David Kirk (Patricia) MacDonald, grandchildren Jennifer, Mark, Crystal, Michelle and Christina and great-children Jett, Tristan, Damon, Noah, and Lauren.
The service will be held at McBeath-Dynes Funeral Home 246 Thames Street South Ingersoll, on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 1:00 PM. Cremation will follow.
Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society (cheques accepted) would be appreciated.
