Obituary for John Frederick NEWMAN

NEWMAN, John Frederick

Passed away peacefully at Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth on Sunday December 5th, 2021, at the age of 94 with family at his side.

John leaves behind his daughter Elizabeth (Murray), grandchildren of Anastasia (Trevor), Scott (Sabine) and Stephanie (Jeremy) and was a very proud Great-Grandpa (Ggpa) to ‘his treasures’, Charlotte, Carter, Emilia, Shay, Camdyn and Henry. John was predeceased by his wife Patricia (2006) parents Frederick (1975) and Ella (1998), sister Janet (1970), nephew Andrew (2019), sister-in-law Dolores (2021) and brother-in-law Jack (1984). He is survived by nieces and nephews as well as many cousins and friends.

John began work for AV Roe in Malton on the AVRO Arrow wings and then went on to work for what became Northern Telecom in London as Manager of the Station Apparatus Division until his retirement in 1986. He was active in the community serving several terms on the Oxford Board of Education, the YMCA building fund and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Msgr. Fuerth Council 2069, Father Joseph M. Burke, Council 2335, 4th degree.

In recent years John regularly enjoyed breakfasts at Miss Ingersoll and would often drive out to the Highland in Embro. He will be missed by the staff at both, as well as the many friends he enjoyed visiting with over those meals as was evidenced in the outpouring of birthday cards this past August.

The family wish to thank the wonderful staff at Oxford Manor, where John lived for the past 20 months. During the challenges of COVID they kept everyone safe. He was moved to Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth in mid-November. John received excellent care from the amazing staff and volunteers at the hospice who kept comfortable in his final weeks and thoroughly supported the family in every way throughout his final journey.

Friends will be received at the McBeath-Dynes Funeral Home 246 Thames Street South, Ingersoll Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Guests are also asked to RSVP on the funeral home website, in John’s obituary where it says RSVP. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church 131 Thames Street North, Ingersoll on Wednesday at 11 am. Interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Due to COVID-19 space is restricted so please contact Sacred Heart to reserve a seat. Masks and social distancing required.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks, people to donate to Stratford Perth Hospice Foundation in John’s name.
