It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Mervin Bartram of Ingersoll, in his 92nd year on March 20, 2022. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Edith (2020), his daughter, Jill (2003), brother, Bill Bartram (1994), and sister, Betty Tschida.

He is survived by his daughter, Betty Ann Cowing (Dennis) and his son, Mike Bartram (Lynda). He is also survived by his sister, Florabelle Beemer.

He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Chrissy Carter Dunham (Al), Lisa Granja (Mike), Jason Cowing (Katie), Mandy Reid (Rodney Hales), Janna McEown (Marshall), Courtney Glanzmann (Kevin) and Lindsay Bynsdorp (Anthony). He was adored by his 18 great grandchildren and his 2 great great granddaughters.

A lifelong resident of Ingersoll, John was well known through all the sports that he played and coached (baseball, hockey, tennis, skating and horseshoes). Many knew him as “Wacky” for his tenacious hockey reputation. John’s leadership and high regard for fair play and sportsmanship made him highly respected and admired by generations of local athletes.

John worked for railway and hydro companies and eventually went on to drive transport truck for 45 years. He often spoke of his million miles of accident-free driving. He spent his winters in Florida and the summers on his boat in Long Point. He could often be seen driving around town in his ’51 Pontiac and “38 Dodge Coupe with Edith by his side. He was regularly in attendance at high school hockey games, baseball games and other sports events in town. He was inducted in the Ingersoll Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.

Friends will be received at the McBeath-Dynes Funeral Home 246 Thames Street South, Ingersoll, Friday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday March 26, 2022 at 11a.m. In an effort to keep everyone safe, masking precautions would be greatly appreciated at the Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Ingersoll Rural Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Alexandra Hospital Foundation or charity of one’s choice in memory of John would be greatly appreciated.
