Obituary for Joan HAMMOND

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Joan Katharine Hammond on October 21, 2022, at the Woodstock Hospital. Joan passed peacefully with family by her side. Beloved wife of George Hammond for 66 years. Loving Mother to Rob (MarNee), Mark (Kelly), Paul [predeceased] (Frances), Dave (Bonnie), Brad (Christy). Proud Grandma of Nicole (Dave), Blair (Pam), Amanda (predeceased), Kyle (Jessica), Michael (Courtney), Kelsey (Grant), Evan (Nicole), Lucas (Marielle), Isaac, Renae, Grant, Annie, and Emmett. Cherished great grandma to 10 great-grandchildren. Dear friend of Shelley and Mark Crandall. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Predeceased by parents Thomas and Winnifred Markham and Ernest and Ellen Hammond, her brothers Grant and Ron, sister-in-laws Marg, Helen, Jean and brother-in-law, Don.

Joan grew up in Ingersoll and was a life-long member of First Baptist Church. Joan had a zest for life and was always eager to take part in whatever life had to offer. Before marriage, she worked as a secretary at Ingersoll Cheese Company. Family was first and foremost her biggest pleasure in life. Once her children were born, being a Mom became her number #1 and most rewarding role in life. She was often visible at her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s hockey, soccer, and baseball games or recitals and skating carnivals. Everyone always marveled how she was able to remember birthdays, anniversaries and special events for every single member of the family. She had a wide circle of friends. Whether it was through her work on committees and projects at Church, being a member of two bridge clubs, taking art classes to become a water colour painter or teaching and playing the piano, she always left an imprint on the people that she encountered. Joan’s hands were always busy. She always had a quilting project to work on or a sweater to knit. She had a passion for cooking and baking and a shelf filled with cookbooks to prove it. She never came empty handed to a family member’s home.
