Obituary for Janis Louise ( McEachern) CARTMALE

November 14, 1952 – December 20, 2018
Janis Cartmale, age 66 of Embro, ON, suddenly passed away at her home, on Thursday, December 20, 2018 after a brief illness.
She is loved and missed by her mother June McEachern (People Care, Tavistock). The cherished wife and life- long companion of 45 yrs. to Gerald Cartmale. Beloved mother to Candace Cartmale of Windsor ON and Cathy Vinkle and her husband Ron of Kelowna BC.  Loved sister of Dianne Porter and her husband Michael of Ingersoll ON.  Nana to Leo Vrieze of ON and Miranda Vinkle of Kelowna BC.  Janis shared very special and unique relationships with her nieces Kimberly Grant of Woodstock ON and Vicki Cartmale-Logan of NW Oxford County.  She was also a loving and fun Aunt to Karrie-Ann Grant, Kevin Grant (Vicki) all of Ingersoll ON, Shawn Porter (Tanya) of Washago ON and Jeremy Porter of Beachville ON. She is also survived by her uncle Michael Carrothers (Debra) and their 2 sons of London ON; and a large number of family-in-law’s.  She was predeceased by her father Douglas McEachern (1986), her grandmother Louise MacDonald (1986) and her aunt Susan Carrothers (2013).
In 1978, Janis & Gerald moved to Embro, ON were they choose to raise their family.  During their 40 years in Embro, they established many special relationships within the village.  Janis, as everyone knew, was a very private, candid, but kind-hearted person, who took delight in her dogs, coffee at the Embro Cheese House, her night time walk-a-bout’s, both in and outside of the village and her gardens. She took great pleasure, along with Gerald renovating both their home and yard into the stunning sanctuary’s they have become; and which are a complete reflection of her unique, eclectic personality.  Often outspoken, she was truly a lady that marched to the beat of her own drum and was not known for bowing to convention. She left a lasting impression on anyone that was lucky enough to have known and loved her.
Thank you to the Embro Volunteer Fire Department and the Oxford OPP for their assistance and compassion on the day of Janis’s passing. Thank you to all of our friends and family of which there are far too many to name, for stopping by with the meals and treats, words of kindness, love and support. It has been greatly appreciated. Special thank you to Matt & Alicia Van Ginkle for all of their help during Jan’s illness and for coming over immediately to be with Gerald on the day she passed away. You are both very special to her.
As per Janis’s wishes, she has been cremated and there will not be a service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stoke Foundation.  Arrangements have been entrusted to McBeath-Dynes Funeral Home, 246 Thames Street S., Ingersoll, ON, (519-425-1600).
