Greenwood, John (Jan Groenewoud)
April 27, 1942 - August 15, 2023
John passed away on Tuesday August 15, 2023 peacefully at home at the age of 81.
Loving husband of Tena (Triemstra) for 54 years. Cherished father of Lisa Groenewoud, Anita Kew, Tim (Peggy) Groenewoud, and Jennifer (Tim) Maddox.
Proud Pake of Pieter, Tineke, Clayton, Amber, Brandon, Ryan, Ty, Siera, Emma and Zoe.
Dear brother to Andries (Betty) Groenewoud, Baukje (Paulus) Paulusma.
Brother-in-law to Jannie (John) Van Leeuwen, Bob (Diane)Triemstra. John will also be missed by his and nieces and nephews in Canada and Netherlands.
John grew up in the Netherlands. At the age of 18 he joined the Dutch Army and spent his service training in Suriname. He later graduated as a blacksmith. John decided to immigrate to Canada at 24 years of age. He married Tena July 11, 1969 and started a family. John was an entrepreneur starting with a barn painting business and then formed Space Age Insulation company which operated for over 40 years.
John loved boating, gardening, playing keatsen (Frisian handball), working in his shop and spending time at the Florida home with his family.
Visitation will take place at McBeath-Dynes Funeral Home 246 Thames Street South, Ingersoll on Wednesday August 23, 2023 from 12pm-2:30pm. A funeral service will begin at 3pm, officiated by Pastor Derek Ellens. A private family graveside service will follow.
