Obituary for Francis Robert Theophilus Edwards

It is with profound sorrow that the family announce the passing of Francis Robert Edwards (Frank) on November 8, 2023 at the age of 90. Born on April 18, 1933, Frank was the son of Francis Richard and Nellie Edwards of Buckhorn. His grandfather Robert T Hill and father both worked as lockmasters in Buckhorn. Frank was raised in Buckhorn and left to work with a transport company. He met his future wife Marilynn in Ingersoll and stayed there to start a family. He was drawn back to the area and became owner of the Sunoco garage in Lakefield. He moved from there to a Sunoco in Peterborough for a few years but then came back to work at Lakeside Garage . His career ended with his work for Ontario Hydro as a heavy duty mechanic for the crews building hydro lines in the Ottawa area and other parts of Ontario. This meant working in freezing temperatures to get hydraulic machines working, living in a trailer where the water would freeze and dealing with bugs in the hot summers.

Frank leaves behind Marilynn his wife for 69 years and children Susan,Vicki and Rick. Grandchildren Amanda Wade, Ben Olchowik, Ashley and Jake Edwards and great grandchildren Leah and James Wade. Predeceased by parents and sisters Ann, Ruth and Irene. Also missed by several nieces and nephews.

During his retirement Frank was able to enjoy spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, camping, fishing and going on trips. He spent time in Florida during the winters for several years. He spent many hours working with the Ingersoll Nature Club going on outings and working to develop the Lawson Tract, filling lots of feeders in the winter to keep the birds and wildlife fed. His hard work there was recognized with a trail named after him.

As per his wishes his body has been donated to Western University for medical research. A celebration of life will be arranged at a later date. Donations can be made to the Ingersoll District Nature club or Alzheimer’s Society.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the McBeath-Dynes Funeral Home 519-425-1600. Personal condolences may be posted at www.mcbeathdynes.ca
