Obituary for Doug Alves

Alves, Douglas Charles (Doug)

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart to announce the passing of Doug in his ninety-first year.

Doug’s battle with the challenges and complications of congestive heart failure ended at Alexandra Hospital on 6 November 2022 after being admitted earlier in the day. He appeared to be settling and in comfort when he passed quickly late in the evening. Many thanks to those folks who provided care over this last year.

Doug was born in Parry Sound, Ontario, on 28 February,1932, to Ed and Alice Alves. He was predeceased by his parents and five older siblings: Minnie, Ruby, Murray, Royce, and Elsie. He is survived by his wife, Jan, and three children: Sandy, Heather, and Brian. He had six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He will be fondly missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends as well.

Doug was an active wood carver and gardener. He enjoyed bowling, lawn bowling, card games, board games and puzzles. He enjoyed baseball and hockey games. Most of all he enjoyed his time with his wife, family, and friends.

Doug enjoyed a variety of jobs throughout his working life. He retired from the City of Scarborough, Parks and Recreation Department in 1997 and relocated shortly thereafter to Ingersoll to be closer to family. He enjoyed helping care for and raise his grandchildren.

Following Doug’s wishes, there will not be visitations, a funeral service or celebration of life. Please remember him kindly in your heart in your own way.

Doug made yearly contributions to dozens of charities. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Fund, Autism Dog Services, or a charity you hold dear would be appreciated.
