Beloved wife of Nicholas for 63 years.
Loving mother to Paul(Celine), Greg, Sandra(Dr. Leo Vos), and John(Susan). Much loved grandmother to Julianna(Dustin) Weidman, Laura, Jonathon and Matthew Vukson, Sara and Connie Vukson, Aaron, Jennifer and Cory Vos, Caroline(Steve) Funston, Elizabeth(Scott) McIntosh, Timothy and Emma Vukson and Great-Grandmother to Laura-Marie, William, Blythe and Hunter. Beloved sister of Mary McCormick, sister-in-law to Gerda Smith, Helen Bacoka, Marie Lindberg and Ronnie Vuckson.
Predeceased by her parents Mary (Mae) Pickard and James Smith, siblings Helen Minshall, Margaret Sowler, Edna Johnson, John Smith, Agnes, & Clarence Smith. She will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Donna grew up in Ingersoll, graduated nursing from Victoria Hospital, London, in 1949. Her nursing career took her from specializing to working at Imperial Oil in Sarnia and Sick Kids in Toronto. After a staying home raising their children, she moved into psychiatric nursing and then Home Care Nursing. Meeting with her “lunch bunch” nursing classmates was always a great joy over the years. Donna enjoyed baking, swimming, family camping trips, and travelling with Nick. She was very good at dispensing advice and if we forgot what we were supposed to do, she was quick to remind us. Despite numerous health setbacks, it did not stop her from genuinely caring and helping our families, neighbours, church friends and even strangers on the train. Mom found great strength in her faith and her favourite poem Desiderata, “Go placidly amid the noise and haste…”
The family wants to thank the wonderful staff at Brierwood Gardens for their so very caring kindness to Donna. Friends will be received at the McBeath-Dynes Funeral Home 246 Thames Street South, Ingersoll Sunday 1-5 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 11am with interment to follow at Ingersoll Rural Cemetery. Donations can be made to St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Ingersoll, ON.
