Obituary for Gail MacKay

Memorial Service for Donald Gail MacKay (1940 - 2022)


The MacKay family invites you to join them for a memorial service in honour of Gail MacKay who passed away on December 28, 2022. The memorial will be held at the Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute (IDCI) 37 Alma Street Ingersoll Saturday May 6, 2023. There will be a reception / visitation in the cafeteria from 1:00 to 2:00pm followed by a memorial service in the main gymnasium from 2:00 to 3:00pm. There will be live music as well as various speakers from different aspects of Gail's life.

Well known by many, Gail was a lifelong resident of Ingersoll and an active member of the community. He is most recognized as an elementary school principal to generations of students in Beachville, Ingersoll, and Tillsonburg, and as the Drum Major and 70-year member of the Ingersoll Pipe Band. Gail was a devoted Mason and Shriner, serving as Potentate in 2008 and a member of the Royal Scots o' Mocha Pipe Band from London. Gail served on Ingersoll town council and led the "Let’s Pool Together!" campaign to fund the construction of the Victoria Park Community Centre and indoor pool. Gail was also a slo-pitch pitcher, coach, and league treasurer, as well as an avid outdoorsman.

Predeceased by his loving wife, Marlene, his parents Donald and Laura MacKay, and sisters-in-laws Lora MacKay and Gail Ann MacKay. Gail leaves behind his children Robb (Robin), Kim (Brian), Trace (Stephen), and Dan (Megan). Gail was a proud Papa to Alex, Tom, Scott, Aggy, Forrest, and Teddy, and ready-made grandkids, Jake, and Michaela. Gail is survived by his siblings Larry John, Valerie, Sandy, Kevin, and Merilee. Gail will be dearly missed by his brothers and sisters-in-law Ruth, David, Jack, Marilyn, Lynn and Don, Ken, Bill and Bob, and Lana, many nieces and nephews, cousins, bandmates, fellow Masons, Shriners, and teachers.
