Obituary for Don DOUGLAS

Donald Arthur Douglas of Ingersoll, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023 suddenly but peacefully at Alexandra Hospital at the age of 86.

Don (Freddie Farkle) was born April 5, 1937 in Ingersoll, Ontario. He is predeceased by his loving wife Cheryl (McGinnis) Douglas (Sparkle Farkle), brother Samuel Douglas, sister Marie Borland, parents Samuel Douglas and Maude (Hancox) Douglas, Brother in law Warren McGinnis, grandson Campbell Douglas, and niece Wendy Rider.

Don is survived by his children Kirk Douglas (Fiona), Kathy Eckhardt (Jim), Brad Douglas (Nancy), and Shelley Douglas (Keith West). He will be missed by his grandchildren Amber Douglas Henhawke, Kyle Douglas, Vanessa Caine, Emma Douglas, Bowen Douglas, Jamie Eckhardt, Jack Eckhardt and his great grandchildren Jana, Kylie, Ty, Eli, Poppy, Oliver, Marley and Noah, his brother Tom Douglas. Don will also be missed by his brother in law Jerry McGinnis (Donna) and sister in law Marnie Bailey (Bruce), sister in law Mary McGinnis, many nieces and nephews and his close friends.

He opened Donald A. Douglas Furniture in downtown Ingersoll in 1962. where he worked for many years with his sister and son by his side. He then became interested in Plastics Injection Molding. As the owner and president of Scott-Douglas Plastics, he could be found at his desk every work day and often on holidays since 1972.

Over the years, his interests were to spend time at the Ingersoll Golf and Country Club with friends. He was a member of the Catholic Bowling League where his social skills exceeded his bowling skills. The Slow Pitch baseball team “Scott Douglas Plastics” enjoyed many parties on the back deck of his home and we must mention the fried egg sandwiches that he cooked for all.

Don’s passion was with his horses and the Standard Bred Horse Racing community. He was often found at the racetrack cheering on his many horses. He and Cheryl would visit them in their stalls or paddock and feed them carrots. When a new horse was born, we waited to hear of the name as he would often use his family as inspiration.

Those who knew Don were aware of his generosity and kind heart. He will be missed as the patriarch of our family but as many of you know, he will always be “Perfect” in our hearts.

Family will receive guests at the McBeath-Dynes Funeral Home, 246 Thames St. S, Ingersoll, ON, on Sunday, between 1 – 5 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 131 Thames St. N, Ingersoll, on Monday, August 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. led by Fr.
