Obituary for Art Arnold

Arnold, Arthur Harry (Art) VRI C.D.
September 17, 1928 - March 12, 2023
The family is sad to announce the passing of Arthur Harry Arnold, son of the late Theo (Currie) and Arthur Arnold. Loving husband of Dorothy (Symons), father of Tracey Clayton (Mike), Dave Arnold (Anita), Deborah Arnold (Shawn) and the late Wendy Sorichetti. Poppa of Jamie, Jordyn and Aislyn. Great Poppa to Elliott. Survived by his brother Richard Arnold, sister Betty Jane Arnold, sisters-in-law Jean Ficht, and Brenda Symons. Cousin to Inez McKenzie of Nova Scotia, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Art had more than one occupation. He was a carpenter and built houses in his hometown of Niagara-on-the-Lake. One of which was for his mother and his grandmother. He joined the Canadian Army in the early 50s, taking to that like a duck to water. He spent some years in the infantry doing a term in Germany. He then transferred to the RCR Band in London Ontario joining a professional group of musicians playing the trumpet. His music was always a big part of his life. He played in dance bands as a teenager in Niagara and many others in the London area.

He retired from the Army and moved with Dorothy and a family of 3 to a farm near Putnam. He enjoyed the animals on the farm. Chickens, horses, dogs, cats as well as pet pigs named Suzie and Sally. A pet duck named George would follow him while he worked and greeted him when he came home. In his youth he was an exceptionally good badminton player. Golfing was a sport he enjoyed and practiced often. So much that he would drag Dorothy to the driving range and fetch balls at a golf course even in the winter. He enjoyed Camping and fishing, but Art’s passion was flying. He and Dorothy bought different airplanes and enjoyed flying for many hours. They bought a boat later, but it never took the place of the airplanes.

Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at the McBeath-Dynes Funeral Home 246 Thames Street South, Ingersoll on Friday March 24, 2023 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity United Church 118 Church Street, Ingersoll on Saturday March 25, 2023 at 11am.
