Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Victoria, Vicki, Vick, Aunt Vicki, or AV, knew she was incredibly kind, unbelievably thoughtful, smart as a whip, hilarious, and a force to be reckoned with. She was strong and fearless to the end. AV left a trail of freshly cut flowers in the smallest bud vases you could find. This small act said so much about the type of person she was, someone who was always thinking of ways to brighten your day and put a smile on your face.
There is no one in the world who could write a letter like Aunt Vicki. Her dedication to staying connected with so many people in her life with a thoughtful note in her distinct and beautiful penmanship was truly amazing. So many will feel the loss of Aunt Vicki when opening their mailboxes. This form of It was so easy to open up to Vicki, she always showed genuine interest and happiness in celebrating everyone's achievements. She had the ability to make friends wherever she went, from the corner store to the library, sometimes without even meeting them first, notably a special friendship with Sally Bell in Australia.
A voracious reader, a real movie buff, and lover of animals, especially her two beloved rescue cats Tobie and Stache. All the animals in her life will miss Vicki terribly, with the unmistakable jingle of her many special bracelets and her singsong voice as she was doling out the treats and love.
Aunt Vicki loved the water, to collapse under it as she would say. A huge part of her heart lay in Muskoka, a place where so many of her wonderful childhood memories took place. She loved to reminisce about her adventures in sailing, from Kingston to LA and the 1984 Olympics.
Aunt Vicki loved to learn and admitted herself she was a better student than teacher, lasting only one year in front of the classroom before realizing her talents belonged elsewhere. Completing two degrees at Queens University and most recently a university certificate for Teaching English as a second language. Her passion for learning something new was never satisfied.
We shared so many laughs, inside jokes, ridiculous stories, and cherished memories with you AV. You meant so much to so many. A great driving companion, a confidante and the only person who would answer the phone after 11pm, and a true friend. We are so lucky to have known you.
Someone like Aunt Vicki, a person with so much love to give will most certainly leave a void in so many of our lives. To honour her memory, try your hardest to stay connected, and write someone you cherish a lovely and meaningful note.
